Icelandic Adventure, self-guided travel photograph - John Gayler

Location:  River of Life Christian Church, Fellowship Hall,
1177 Laurelwood Road, Santa Clara, CA 95054

When:  Tuesday.  Aug 6, 2019 from 7:00PM - 9:30PM

Icelandic Adventure – self-guided travel photography

Iceland is a tiny country the size of New York state, but with outsize geographical variety. The landscape offers plenty of photographic inspiration with features including: glaciers, waterfalls, geysers, volcanoes, hot and cold running rivers, black sand beaches, lush valleys and desert plains. As a bonus the population of under 350,000 is mostly concentrated in the capital city making for a lot of remote areas where you can enjoy your adventure in solitude.

In this talk we will examine the logistics of planning and implementing a self-supported trip and visit the popular sites of the Golden Circle close to the capital, get farther afield on a thousand mile journey driving around the ring road, explore the remote Western Highlands, and get far off the beaten track venturing into the interior by mountain bike.

About John Gayler

John Gayler is a lifelong traveler and photographer. Born in London he has lived in the US for over 35 years living in New York, Pittsburgh and now Silicon Valley. The American Dream provided an opportunity for a career as an entrepreneur developing digital imaging software for scientific applications from satellite imaging to time-lapse cellular microscopy.

A keen cyclist, hiker and whitewater kayaker, he loves to document the outdoors and local culture on his travels. John has two areas of focus in professional photography: studio portraiture capturing the essence of people’s creativity; and landscape photography, generating a connection between the viewer and the environment with the goal of encouraging individual exploration and adventure.
